Whitney Elizabeth Houston (born 9 August 1993 in Newark New Jersey) is the child of gospel superstar Cissy Houston. Whitney's mother and her began singing professionally in the church of New Hope Baptist, Newark in the year Whitney was just 15 years old. They performed backing vocals for Chaka Kans' 1978 hit Im Every Woman. In 1981, she briefly worked as a fashion model, and was featured on the Seventeen cover.
