April Ross
April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball players who have earned medals at least twice in an Olympics. Alix klineman, who is playing for the first time at Tokyo's Olympic Games, will try to earn her third gold medal. Ross aims to earn the Olympic first gold medal however, she also hopes for more. The next chance she'll ever have at age 39. Her optimism is that she can achieve top honors. Ross declared on NBC Boston: "If we perform our best and if we just play well I believe we can win the gold medal." "I'm trying to also try a little luck." Ross is born in the year 1982. Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. Ross played in numerous sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. She played basketball and ran the track as well as her indoor volleyball exploits as a pre-collegiate athlete. When she played in the final sport she was clearly the standout. Her college biography states that she was an outside-hitting hitter, middle blocker and setter throughout her volleyball time at high school. Gatorade Circle of Champions named her as the National Player in 1999. The year 2000 was the time she received the Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Although Ross and Klineman are in the spotlight since 2017, the former had already been a major participant on the beaches prior to their team. She actually won numerous major events using two partners, one of which is an icon of volleyball. The pair teamed together with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and also was Klineman's coach. Kessy was Ross's partner on the 2009 World Championships. The pair eventually picked up a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor won gold, overtaking them. Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she retired. Together, they won beach volleyball bronze for the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross participated in the USC Trojans in the college years following her graduation from in high school. This was an impressive performance for Ross during her time at the university. She was an All-American and Pac-10 freshman of the year in the year 2000, a young freshman. The Trojans had the chance to get to the Final Four with her help. During her sophomore year she experienced a devastating personal setback, but she was able to be a second All-American. Through her two final years in the Trojans program, she coached the team to win a national championship every year. She had established her place as a legend having won the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross majored in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross did not get to witness her daughter's rise to fame as a beach volleyball player. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001 when Ross was still an USC sophomore. She had breast cancer.
